EASY AND QUICK CHILDREN'S BAKING RECIPES
We all have stress when it comes to kids interfering within the kitchen let’s face it, But it doesn’t have to be like that.
Remember the good old times baking with your grandparents or family, they were the good times! Parents often have limited time to really focus on their children around the busy routine or cooking, cleaning, getting them ready for bed. Well here’s a few easy step by step recipes that take no time at all and give you that extra bonding and creating something your child can be a part of and something they can be proud of.
Whether your baking them for family, friends, school these recipes are a sure winner for success both for ease and also extra tasty
Gingerbreadmen/cookies
Ingredients (serves 8+)
- 350g plain flour
- 2 tsp ginger, ground
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 100g butter
- 175g soft light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 4 tbsp golden syrup
Method to the madness
- Preheat oven 190'C/Gas mark 5.. Watch the little guys hands !
- Put the flour, ginger and soda into a bowl and rub in the butter
- Add sugar and syrup followed by the egg to make a firm dough
- Roll out around 5mm thick and cut out your gingerbread men or any shape you desire
- If you don't have a gingerbread man cutter then use whatever you have - stars and hearts are just as tasty
- place baking paper on a tray and evenly space out the biscuits, bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown and smelling delicious
- Leave to cool for a couple of minutes before placing on a wire rack
- And once cooled this is the fun part. Decorate with icing, chocolate, buttons, sparkles.. Let your child create their own little master pieces
Fairy buns/cakes
Ingredients (serves 8+)
- 100g butter, softened
- 100g self raising flour
- 100g caster sugar
- 2 eggs
Method
- Preheat oven gas mark 4/180'C/170'C fan
- Whisk all the ingredients in no particular order until smooth and place into round about 12 bun cases or a bun tin
- Cook for about 10-15 minutes - to check they are cooked just press gently and they should spring back
- Once cooled, the cakes can be decorated with all different types of icing including glace icing or delicious buttercream icing, sweets treats.. Anything you can lay your hands on. Ask the children what they would like to put onto their cakes. Let them have as much input as possible
Cornfake chocolate nests
Ingredients (serves 12+)
Method
1. Place the butter, chocolate and golden syrup in a saucepan over a low heat. Cook until the chocolate melts
2. Allow to cool a little, then pour over the cornflakes
3. Gently stir all the ingredients together
4.Spoon the mixture into cupcake cases and decorate as desired. Place in the fridge to set, then get as many as you can, just save some for the kids :)
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients (serves 12+)
- 150g softened butter
- 1/2 cup caster sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 3/4 cups plain flour
- 1/2 cup Chocolate chips
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Whisk together the following - butter, sugars and vanilla until smooth and well combined. Then add in the egg until well mixed together.
2.Stir in flour and chocolate chips. Roll the mixture into balls and place on prepared trays, 3cm apart. Press down slightly. You can decorate the top with more chocolate chips if you wish .
3.Bake for 15-18 minutes or until light golden. Place onto a wire rack to cool. Store into a container and these amazing cookies will last for a week. Let your kids take them for school snacks or maybe late time snacks
Chocolate brownie
Ingredients (serves 20)
- 400g caster sugar
- 225g butter, melted
- 60g cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 eggs
- 225g plain flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Method
- Mix all ingredients in the order of the list shown above
- Bake at 180 C for 20 - 25 minutes in a rectangular 23x33cm greased baking tin, or any size that you have although the brownies maybe smaller or larger. Be who cares brownies are brownies right?
- Cool, and slice into shapes of your choice. Once cooled you can decorate if you wish with anything you desire
Rice crispy squares
Ingredients (serves 24 squares)
- 45 grams butter
- 300 grams mini marshmallows
- 180 grams rice krispies
- edible sprinkles (optional)
Method
- Melt the butter in a large saucepan over a low heat.
- Add the marshmallows and cook gently until they are completely melted and keep stiring.
- Take the pan off the heat and immediately add the rice krispies, mix together until well coated.
- Press the mixture into a greased 13 x 9 inch pan. Flatten the top and then scatter over the edible glitter or sprinkles to finish off
- Let the marshmallow crispy squares cool completely in the tin and then cut them into how ever many squares you would like. 1 big one if your hungry :) But this recipe should be able to be cut into 24 squares
